EDM Specialist – Precision Manufacturing Excellence
We’re looking for a highly skilled EDM Specialist to join our precision manufacturing team. If you take pride in accuracy, craftsmanship, and solving complex machining challenges, this role gives you the opportunity to work on high‑tolerance components that demand expertise and attention to detail.
About the Role
As an EDM Specialist, you will operate, program, and maintain Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, and/or Hole‑Pop EDM equipment to produce precision components for high‑performance applications. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, toolmaking, and quality teams to ensure every part meets exacting standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Program, set up, and operate EDM equipment (Wire, Sinker, Hole‑Pop)
• Interpret detailed blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T
• Select electrodes, tooling, and machining strategies for optimal results
• Perform in‑process and final inspections using precision measurement tools
• Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust parameters for accuracy and efficiency
• Maintain machines, monitor consumables, and ensure a clean, organized work area
• Support continuous improvement in machining processes and workflow
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
• Hands‑on experience with EDM machines (Mitsubishi, Makino, Sodick, Charmilles, or similar)
• Strong understanding of:
• EDM burn strategies
• Electrode selection and wear characteristics
• Wire threading, flushing, and cutting parameters
• Surface finish requirements and tolerance control
• Ability to read and interpret:
• Complex blueprints
• GD&T
• 3D CAD models
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, CMM experience is a plus)
• Experience machining hardened tool steels, stainless steels, and specialty alloys
Professional Skills
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Effective communication with engineering, toolmaking, and quality teams
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple jobs
Preferred Experience
• Background in moldmaking, medical device tooling, aerospace, or high‑precision manufacturing
• Experience with CAM software for EDM programming
• Knowledge of mold components, inserts, and complex tooling geometries
